Tips To Clean Your Leather Gun Holster

Posted by on 3:51 am in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Tips To Clean Your Leather Gun Holster

If you have recently obtained your concealed carry license or permit from your local state, then you are now allowed to carry a handgun in a concealed or visible manner while in a public space. If you want to specifically conceal your weapon on your body, then you will need a proper holster. The best holster will allow for concealment, ease of gun retrieval, and comfort and many people choose to purchase leather holsters for themselves. The holsters are meant to be durable, but you will need to spend time taking care of a leather one. Keep reading to learn about some cleaning tips to assist you.  Remove Debris From The Leather Since holsters are supposed to be used and secured close to the body, the leather is likely to become quite dirty. Skin cells, dirt, and debris will build on the exterior of the holster. This means that you will need to clean the holster quite often. A quick dusting with a soft microfiber cloth after every use is a good idea to remove surface debris. About once a month you should complete a more thorough cleaning to release ingrained debris. While proper cleaning can retain the condition of the leather, the wrong cleaning product can ruin it. To understand which types of products are best, you need to know that leather hides are slightly acidic with a pH between 4.5 and 5. Most cleaning agents, like saddle soap, have much higher pH levels. Saddle soap has a pH above 10. If this cleaner or another one with a high pH is used on the leather, a reaction will occur between the leather and the cleaner. The reaction will fade the leather and break down the fibers that make up the hide. Consistent use of an improper cleaner will destroy the structural integrity of your holster and leave the color faded.  For the best results, utilize a cleaner that has a pH formulated especially for leather. Lexol products are a good choice, and these cleaners contain cleaning agents alone. This helps to keep the leather moist since drying additives like alcohol are not included. When using the cleaner, spray a generous amount on your holster and use a microfiber cloth to buff the leather until a foam is created. Use a clean cloth to wipe away the foam and the dirt that has pulled up from the leather. Dampen another microfiber cloth and wipe down the holster to remove leftover soap. Release Stains Once you complete the cleaning, you should inspect the back of your holster for any dark stains. If the leather appears discolored, then sweat from your body has likely caused the staining. This is to be expected due to direct skin contact. However, if the sweat stain is left to dry, the leather will crack and break apart. This generally occurs as the hide absorbs the salt and moisture is pulled out of the hide. The fats in the sweat will cause discoloration as well. If you notice sweat stains, then treat them immediately after you clean the leather. You will need to use white vinegar to do this. Vinegar will neutralize the salts in the sweat, so mix about one cup of white vinegar with one cup of water in a small spray bottle. Spritz the stain lightly and allow the...

Fifty Cent Piece Basics For Beginning Collectors

Posted by on 11:37 am in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Fifty Cent Piece Basics For Beginning Collectors

Fifty cent pieces are sometimes overlooked by fledgling coin collectors in favor of larger and often more valuable silver dollars. However, half dollars have been minted in the United States since nearly two short decades after the country gained its independence from Great Britain, and unlike their dollar counterparts, they come in several designs that the average collector can afford. Following are the six types of silver fifty cent pieces that the United States Mint has produced since the year 1794 that range from easily affordable to wildly expensive. Bust Fifty Cent Pieces Bust fifty cent pieces were issued from 1794 through 1839. Capped Bust varieties in good condition that were minted between 1807 and 1839 have a market value of at least $45, while their uncirculated counterparts command over $1,000. Early Bust half dollars that were produced during 1794-95 have are valued of upwards of $27,000. All Bust fifty cent pieces feature a bust of Lady liberty on the front and a stylized depiction of a bald eagle on the back. Seated Liberty Fifty Cent Pieces Produced by the United States Mint from 1839 through 1891, the Seated Liberty fifty cent piece has a minimum value of $30. Uncirculated Seated Liberties range from several hundred dollars to $1,200 in value. The front of all Seated Liberty half dollars features Lady Liberty seated on a large rock holding a small flag and surrounded by stars. The back of the coin shows an eagle clutching arrows in its claws and a shield covering its heart. Barber Fifty Cent Pieces Barber fifty cent pieces were produced from 1892 through 1915. They range in value from $23 to $29,000. Designed by renowned United States Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber, the coin depicts Lady Liberty’s profile with a wreath of laurel wrapped around her head. The bald eagle on the reverse side is holding an olive branch in its claws and holding a ribbon in its beak inscribed with the United States motto E Pluribus Unum, which is Latin for the phrase, “out of many, one.” Walking Liberty Fifty Cent Pieces Price for Walking Liberty half dollars in good condition begin at $19 and range upwards of $5,500 for uncirculated coins. Minted from 1916 through 1947, Walking Liberties are considered by many to be the most beautiful of all of the half dollars produced by the United States Mint. The front of the coin shows a full-length Lady Liberty striding toward the dawn of a new day with the Stars and Stripes in the background. The reverse side of the coin shows the customary bald eagle perched on a high mountain aerie with wings outstretched. Franklin Fifty Cent Piece The United States Mint produced Franklin half dollars from 1948 through 1963. Unlike its predecessors, this fifty cent piece depicts Benjamin Franklin rather than the traditional Lady Liberty, and the reverse side shows a stylized version of the Liberty Bell.  Franklin half dollars range in value from $12 for coins in good condition to $400 for uncirculated proof coins. Because they have no rare varieties or dates, they are among the most affordable silver half dollar pieces on today’s market.  Kennedy Fifty Cent Pieces Created as a memorial to President John F. Kennedy, the Kennedy half dollar has been minted since 1964 and...

Putting Your Best Fashion Foot Forward In A Medical Office Environment

Posted by on 5:46 am in Uncategorized | 0 comments

While you are truly excited about your new career as a medical professional, you have probably been a lot less enthused about your fashion choices, which — sadly — are few. You understand that scrubs and comfortable shoes are necessary in your chosen field, but you’ve always loved dressing in a style that reflects your personality. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to infuse a little of your personality into your boring medical wardrobe, while still remaining safe, comfortable and professional. But First Check the particular guidelines of your medical office. Some doctors prefer a uniform look, and so they might require that all of their medical professionals wear a certain color of scrubs or ones without patterns. Other doctors, especially those that work with children, may allow you to wear kid-friendly patterns. So before you invest in new garb, you should make sure that your outfit and shoes will be in compliance with your office’s dress code.  Shoes In most medical professional jobs, you will probably be spending a lot of time on your feet, so comfortable footwear is a must. In addition, you should not wear open-toed shoes, which could expose your feet to potentially hazardous spills or dropped sharp objects. You can still, however, don fashionable shoes. It just may take you a little more time shopping to find a pair that fits all of your criteria. The following are some dos and don’ts of choosing appropriate but fashionable footwear for your new career: Avoid wearing heels, especially if you already have painful foot problems such as plantar fasciitis or bunions. Heels can be very hard on your feet, and in the event of a medical emergency, you should be able to respond quickly, which may not be as easy to do if you’re wearing stilettos.  Look for “healthy” shoes in cute designs. For example, Alegria offers shoes that are not only ergonomically designed to provide support for your feet, but are also available in a variety of styles and colorful designs and patterns.  Choose shoes that are slip-resistant. Wet spills are not uncommon in a medical environment, so you will want shoes that will prevent you from slipping and falling. Look for a roomy toe box, especially if you have bunions. In the past, this style could look clunky, but there are a number of fashion-forward choices available today that boast a slightly sleeker profile. Scrubs Fortunately, there are a number of companies that offer scrubs in fashionable colors and designs. When choosing scrubs, you should: Look for material with stretch. Scrubs that are crafted out of four-way stretch fabrics tend to look more tailored and less baggy than traditional pieces. Stretchy material will also give you the freedom to move comfortably during your working day.  Choose colorful patterns or designs. Scrubs are now offered in a variety of patterns, including seasonal designs, pretty florals and interesting graphics.  Select scrubs with interesting details. If you aren’t allowed to wear colors or patterns, you may be able to wear scrubs that feature small ruffles or a mock wrapping design.  Keep It Neat and Professional In your quest for individuality, it’s important to remember that the clothes you wear under your scrubs should be appropriate and neat. According to the New York Times, a number of...

Clean Your Decanters Or Carafes Using The Right Chemicals

Posted by on 8:22 am in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Decanters and carafes do more than add elegance to gatherings in your home; they also serve to aerate the beverages they contain as well as allow sediments to settle. Therefore, these fine pieces of crystal and glassware deserve the best of care so that they might serve you for a lifetime. Properly caring for these special containers takes an understanding of the agents you can use to clean them. Here is a guide to cleaning chemicals for your personalized liquor decanters and carafes and how to use them safely and appropriately: Items you will need Proper care requires that you have a small selection of cleaning chemicals at your disposal. These are all inexpensive items, and you will need them to do the job well: Isopropyl alcohol – also known as rubbing alcohol, use the highest concentration available to you at your local pharmacy. Bleach – choose a non-scented household bleach available in the laundry aisle at retail and grocery stores. White vinegar – ordinary vinegar that is appropriate for cooking or cleaning is sufficient for cleaning glass or crystal. Distilled water – this can be purchased by the gallon in the beverage aisle at most grocery stores. Be sure not to accidentally purchase purified water, as it still contains minerals that cause spotting. High-quality liquid dishwashing soap – most any name brand is acceptable, but avoid formulations with bleach or other added cleaning agents. Sodium percarbonate powder – this is available in a variety of brand names as well in generic formulations; it is marketed as an oxidizing product for use in cleaning organic-based laundry stains. A list of stain-causing elements in decanters and carafes There are several chemicals contained in alcoholic beverages that can stain crystal or glass. Some of these include: Tannins – these substances are found in wine, and they are powerful enough to tan leather (hence the name) as well as stain glass or crystal. Acids – a number of acids are contained in alcoholic beverages, and over time, they are able to discolor glass. Sugars – sugary substances that are found in wines, particularly, can adhere to crystal or glass. Pigments – these are also more likely to originate in wines, particularly as a downstream product from grapes. While you don’t have to necessarily know which stain is on your decanter or carafe, it is helpful to understand some of the underlying chemistry as you move forward with cleaning them. Using alkaline based cleaners Alkaline cleaners are powerful, but you should use them with great caution. This class of chemicals includes bleach as well as some dishwashing soaps. They are able to react with certain compounds and render them effectively colorless, though the actual staining agent may still remain on your glass or crystal. Many alkaline chemicals also can increase the “wetness” of water by reducing surface tension and which is the key to allowing water to act by dissolving the substance itself. The downside to these agents is that they will also permanently etch your glass or crystal if left in contact too long. If you use these cleaners, be sure to apply them for a limited time only. If you want to make repeated applications, first rinse the decanter or carafe in vinegar, a weak acid, so that it can neutralize...

5 Tips To Making The Perfect Family Reunion T-Shirt

Posted by on 7:39 am in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Have you been put in charge of making t-shirts for your family reunion? If so, you probably want to design a t-shirt that your extended family will be proud to wear until your next large reunion, and that task can be a bit overwhelming. However, follow these five pieces of advice and you will produce a product that your whole family will be happy with. You might even impress that aunt or uncle that is never happy with anything.   Get Plenty of Input  If you have a lot of great, funny ideas for your t-shirt design, that is great. You should write them down or draw them up on your computer. Then you should put them away for awhile to get the rest of your family’s opinions. Having a t-shirt that you like or your immediate family finds funny is important, but it is more important to try making as many members of your extended family as possible feel represented by the shirt.  Consider having a t-shirt design contest two months before the reunion. This can get your family excited about the reunion and increase your design ideas. Set up a section on your reunion website where family members can vote. If two or three designs are equally popular, considering merging them or printing both designs and letting family members choose which one they want to purchase.  Choose High Quality Shirts For Printing  The quality of your product can mean the difference between people wearing it only once during your event or keeping it as a keepsake for years. Most printing stores offer a selection of t-shirts in various sizes, colors, and qualities. However, before you simply purchase what a store claims is a high quality shirt, order a sample and assess the fabric style, fiber content, and fit yourself.  Most people are happy with a thick 100% cotton t-shirt with round loop knitting.  Offer A Range Of Sizes  Before you order, you should get more size information for everyone who will be getting a shirt. The best way to do this is to send the sizing measurements from the company you are placing your order with and allow each individual to determine their own best fit. However, you should order a few extras in each size. This allows people to exchange their order for a shirt in a different size if they find out the shirt runs larger or smaller than they are used to.  While you are at it, don’t forget to print up a few rompers for any babies or toddlers that will be attending the event.  Consider Multiple Colors  Just like you may want to print multiple designs, you may also want to print your shirts in a few different colors. This will allow everyone to select a color they find flattering and make them more likely to wear the shirt more often. You should select harmonic colors, so the t-shirts look good together in photographs, and refrain from giving your family members too many choices. Two colors and two designs provide plenty of options.  Include Those Who Can’t Attend  When ordering t-shirts, try to include shirts for those who are unable to make it to the reunion. Ideally, these shirts can be sent out ahead of time and then those not attending can send...

A Brief Buyer’s Guide For Purchasing Tungsten Wedding Bands

Posted by on 4:33 am in Uncategorized | 0 comments

There are many factors that go into choosing a wedding band and the type of material it’s made from is just as an important element as the ring’s design. In recent years, tungsten has become a popular choice amongst wedding couples because of its durability. Here’s what you need to know about tungsten wedding bands and a few tips for buying a ring you’ll love wearing. What is Tungsten? Tungsten is a rare metal that exists naturally on the Earth as a chemical compound. It is a heavy metal that has the highest melting point of all the metals, as well as a very high density. By itself, the metal is brittle. However, when it is combined with carbide or other materials it becomes incredibly hard and difficult to break. Benefits and Disadvantages of Tungsten One of the things people find most appealing about tungsten is its durability. It is the only metal that can be permanently polished to a glossy shine. It goes through a special process, including being placed in an oven set at an extreme temperature, that helps make it scratch proof. The only thing that can damage a ring made with tungsten is a diamond. Rings made from tungsten are 10 times harder than rings made from 18K gold and 4 times harder than rings crafted from titanium. These rings will not bend or warp and can even withstand direct impact. Another selling point for many newlyweds is the fact that tungsten is cheaper than gold. A comparison at one jewelry retailer found that a men’s white or gold wedding band sold for about $700, while a tungsten band cost around $200. For cash-strapped couples, tungsten provides an affordable way to get a durable ring that will hold onto its beauty for a long time. Like any other product, tungsten wedding bands do have some drawbacks. Because the ring requires a special molding process, very few jewelers know how to work with the material and/or have the equipment to do so. This is can make it difficult to locate someone who can increase or decrease the size of the ring. However, even if you do find someone who can make adjustments to your wedding band, the person won’t be able to do much to the ring because tungsten is not as pliable as other metals. This means you may need to purchase a brand new ring if you gain or lose a lot of weight. Since the ring is scratch-proof, you may also have some difficulty with getting the ring engraved. If you’re set on placing a loving message on the ring to commemorate your wedding day, then you may want to use a more agreeable metal such as silver or gold. Tips for Buying a Tungsten Ring If you’ve decided that a tungsten wedding band is the right option for you, here are a few tips for purchasing one: Get the right size. As noted before, resizing a tungsten wedding band will be extremely difficult. You’ll want to take every precaution–such as getting your finger sized at different times of the day–to ensure you get a ring that fits comfortably. Look for cobalt-free rings. While cobalt is generally a safe substance, people have experienced allergic reactions to the element. Cobalt is sometimes added to...

Three Versatile Items You Need For Your Bug-Out Shelter

Posted by on 3:44 am in Uncategorized | 0 comments

If you are like most doomsday preppers, you have probably already stocked your bug-out shelter with your basic needs, such as water and canned foods. If so, you are probably ready to begin equipping your shelter with these sometimes overlooked necessities that you are going to need in the event of a doomsday scenario. These items include the daily niceties that you have become accustomed to, such as grooming aids and heat, that you may not have access to if you must shelter in place for a long period of time. The following are three things you should consider having on hand in your bug-out shelter. In addition, all three of these items serve more than one purpose.  Wood Stove Use Number One: Heating A wood stove can keep your bug-out shelter nice and toasty during the cold winter months.  Use Number Two: Cooking Depending on the model you choose, you may be able to cook on top of your wood stove. Some versions will also allow you to bake or roast items in them. Experts caution that it does take time to learn how to cook with a wood stove. For one thing, you need to start the fire well in advance of your actual cooking time so that the stove can heat up properly. In addition, you may need to adjust the cooking time on some of your recipes since the temperature of a wood stove can’t be as easily controlled as, say, that of a gas oven.  Straight Razor Kits Use Number One: Grooming If bushy facial hair isn’t your thing, you should stock several straight razor kits in your bug-out shelter. Why a straight razor? More than likely, you will not have access to electricity, so an electric razor is not going to be very useful. And disposable razors or razor blade cartridges are only going to last you so long. With care, a straight razor blade could last you a lifetime. In addition to your straight razor blade, you will need the following in order to keep your blade nice and sharp: A hone, such as a whetstone, to sharpen your blade.  A strop. Typically, a strop consists of one leather strip and one canvas strip. These are used to refine your blade after it has been honed.  Use Number Two: A Weapon If you’ve ever heard the famous story of Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, you know that a straight razor can also be used as a lethal weapon. This is another advantage a straight razor has over a disposable razor. In addition, a straight razor can also be used to dispatch a few chickens or slit the throats of other small game. You should have several blades on hand in your shelter just in case you damage one in hand-to-hand combat or while slaughtering livestock. You can find razor sets at websites like  http://www.vintagebladesllc.com. A Dog Use Number One: A Companion If you’ve been thinking about getting a puppy as a companion, take the time to choose one that could also be useful in the event of a doomsday scenario. While a Chihuahua might make a wonderful companion for your current everyday life, it may not be as useful for a prepper as some other breeds.  Use Number Two:...

4 Alternative Techniques To Help You Kick The Smoking Habit

Posted by on 10:46 am in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Nicotine addiction is the most common form of substance addiction in the US, affecting as many as 70.9 million Americans according to the Department of Health and Human Services. A recent survey by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has found that 68.8 percent of current smokers want to quit, demonstrating the monumental difficulty of the task. Many people have not found success with mainstream methods such as nicotine gum or patches, and are looking for alternative options to help them quit. Here are four examples of alternative methods that you may want to consider. Herbal Cigarettes The most likely place for you to have seen herbal cigarettes is in TV shows and movies where non-smoking actors needed to smoke for their role. Herbal cigarettes are also known as tobacco-free cigarettes, as they contain no tobacco or addiction-forming nicotine. Instead, they have blends of herbs such as corn silk, mint, cinnamon, lemongrass, and more to provide flavor. Unlike many other smoking substitutes that contain decreased amount of nicotine, herbal cigarettes may have limited use for helping people with strong addictions to stop smoking. For some people, however, partaking in the habit of lighting up a herbal cigarette can help you get through the symptoms of withdrawal that you will experience when quitting nicotine cold-turkey. Acupuncture One of the most difficult aspects of quitting smoking is the large amount of endorphins that are released when you smoke a cigarette. Endorphins are the hormones that are secreted by the brain that regulate happiness, block pain, and reduce stress. Finding an alternative source of the endorphin rush that you experience while smoking and using it as a substitute can be an effective method for breaking your addiction. The brain’s endorphin reaction is the reason that acupuncture therapy can be effective as a stop smoking aid if used long-term. Acupuncture specialists are trained to target nerve clusters that cause endorphin releases in the brain. Over time, the endorphin release that you get from acupuncture therapy can begin to suppress your body’s craving for nicotine. E-Cigs Electronic cigarettes are one of the newest types of alternative smoking available on the market. E-cigs from places like Vapoligy consist of a battery-powered vaporizer that produces mist from liquid refills that come in many flavors. The liquid that you smoke through an e-cig consists of water, propylene glycol, flavoring, and sometimes nicotine. The complete health effects of e-cig vapor is still being studied, but overall they appear to be less dangerous than regular cigarettes. Many of the harmful chemicals that are present in normal cigarette smoke are not found in e-cig vapor, but like any product with nicotine they can be addictive. Starting off with reduced nicotine e-cigarettes and gradually moving to non-nicotine solutions can help you to break your smoking habit altogether. Hypnotherapy Rather than gradually weaning you off of nicotine or relying on endorphin release to kill your cravings, hypnotherapy helps you stop smoking with subconscious suggestion. Because of the severity of the withdrawal symptoms you experience while trying to quit, it is almost impossible to rely on willpower alone. Hypnotherapy effectively augments your willpower by helping you to just put the cigarette down when you feel the need to smoke. There are several different techniques that a hypnotherapist may use to make quitting...

Strategies For Keeping Resin Patio Chairs Looking Great

Posted by on 7:18 am in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Resin chairs make great patio and deck furniture because they are attractive, affordable and durable. However, they have a tendency to eventually develop a chalky residue and dark stains due to continuous exposure to the elements. The chalky residue gets on people’s clothing and is a nuisance. Usually this residue and other environmental staining can be removed with some effective strategies. First, clean any dirt or pollen off the chairs with a hose or a bucket of water and a rag. Then start with one of the milder methods and move on to the bleach solution if the residue proves to be stubborn. Always rinse the chairs with your garden hose when you’re done. Apply Orange Oil  Pour orange oil onto a sponge, paper towel or clean rag, and wipe a chair with it. You also can buy orange oil polish in a spray bottle and use that product instead; it’s cheaper. Some labels on polish refer to the products as wood polishers, but they are suitable for plastic and many other materials. Leave the oil or polish on for 10 minutes, then wipe some off. If the chalky residue and staining doesn’t come off too, use a soft brush and scrub the chair. Be sure to use a brush that won’t scratch the plastic. If you’re concerned this one might, test it underneath the chair first. Avoid using scouring pads or steel wool.  An added benefit of orange oil or polish is that it adds shine to the chairs, making them look like you just bought the furniture.  Clean the Chairs With Vinegar & Dish Soap If you happen to have some white (clear) vinegar on hand, add some to a bucket of sudsy warm water and tackle your chair with a sponge or clean rag.  Apply a Commercial Outdoor Cleaning Product Many cleaning products are available that have been formulated specifically for outdoor use, such as restoring the look of plastic patio furniture and vinyl decks. Spray the product onto the chairs and wipe clean.  Use a Diluted Bleach Treatment Add 1/2 cup of bleach and a tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent to a gallon of warm water and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Test the solution on a small area on the bottom to see whether it changes the color of the plastic. If it doesn’t, then spray the problem areas.  After five minutes, use a sponge or a clean rag to wipe some of the solution off. If the chalky residue does not come off too, use your soft-bristle brush.  Wear rubber gloves when you’re working with bleach, even when it’s diluted this much. Don’t mix bleach with anything but mild soap and water, and don’t inhale the fumes.  Shine Those Chairs If you want your patio furniture to look almost like new, apply car wax or furniture wax. That will make them shiny again and provide protection against future staining.  If All Else Fails Sometimes patio chairs simply have seen better days and nothing works. That doesn’t mean they’re no longer functional. If you want to keep using the chairs, consider painting them. Spray paint is available that is intended for use on plastic. After painting, the chairs really will look like new and they’ll provide you with many more years of use....
